Day 6 - Saving Power

Tuesday 11th March 2014

Task:
Todays task is to walk to places and to school without using the car. This will help air pollution and the petrol bill.

Result:
The result turned out to be really useful as we saved truck loads of power, energy, money and we can help air pollution.

Reflection:
This is a really good task as you save heaps, you can help the world and in the meantime exercising your body and also part of your mind. It also makes you wake up early and walk which is good for your body as I was told.

What Next?:
My parents and my brother were really pleased with me one for walking and another for actually waking up early for once. No matter what they said I was also pleased with myself.

Day 5 - Saving Power

Monday 10th March 2014

Task:
Today the task is to time my showers and see how long my showers are so I can cut down on the water and electricity I use for such things as the heater and heat lights.

Result:
Of course this task helped out a lot with the water bill, but it also helped out with the electricity as I also wanted to see if I could shower with no lights.

Reflection:
This was actually quite fun as I was taking a shower in the dark. It just shows that you can have fun as well as save power, therefore I think everybody should do this at least once a month. It will help out and you can have fun while doing it.

What Next?:
Having showers also clean you so why not try out this task your self.Tomorrow I will start to walk to places and to school instead of driving to school in a car.

Day - 4 Saving Power

Friday 7th March 2014

Task:
My task today is to hand wash my dishes for one day so I can save up on the electricity as well water. In the process I shall also save energy. When doing this I will also learn skills such as patience and I will be able to help my parents out more.

Result:
This task was tiring and ever since I have started my parents nag me about doing the dishes. I now take turns with my sister thus saving energy, electricity and water. It is a really good task ( and chore ) and it teaches you maturity as well no matter how boring and tiring it is.

Reflection:
I think that since I do this more often, more people should take an interest in doing this task. It helps out in the kitchen and in the environment. It is then a win-win situation for both your family and the world.

What Next?:
The next task for me is to time my showers. The more I time my showers the more I get better at having short showers, which helps save electricity and in this case as well water.

Day 3 - Saving Power

Wednesday 5th March

Task:
My task is to try and stay for at least twelve hours without using the lights. This will be a challenging yet exciting task. I hope i can live up to my task without my parents telling me to turn on the lights.

Result:
This task as I said was challenging but it was also fun (I quite like the dark)! It turned out to be a real money saver!! The experience was fun as well. Imagine all the light turned off at night. Every thing would be pitch black, and that was how it turned out.

Reflection:
I think that if everybody did this for at least one day a month we would save a lot of power and energy. I was quite appalled when I searched up the amount of pollution going around the world. Since we are doing Solar Power inquiries in class I have noticed that even though solar power is really useful and is a renewable energy source it also generates light! If we all had solar panels in our houses I think that it would make a huge difference in the world.

What next?:
Tomorrow I hand wash the dishes so I can stop using the dish washer as it uses up not only electricity but also a lot of water.

Saving Power - Day 2

Tuesday 4th March 2014

Task:
My task today is to save power by switching off the power sockets at the wall. When I do that I will hopefully save a lot of power and money.

Result:
Me switching off the wall sockets surprisingly made a big difference to our power bill.I didnt think that it was such a big deal but just doing that small action could save a lot.

Reflection:
I think that everyone should start switching off the power sockets at the wall whenever they are not doing something, because if we all did that there would be less homeless people as they would have earned money because of the money we saved up. Just by turning things off we can turn life up!

What Next?:
I have also told my family about this idea and after they did it showed a big difference! I will continue to do this as well as wear blankets when I am cold because they have made impressive results. Next time I will try to not use any electrical devices and see if that will make a difference.

Saving Power - Day 1

Monday 3rd March 2014

The Task:
My power bills are rapidly going up so I decided to make a compromise. I thought that if I wore warm mink blankets instead of using my fireplace I would save a ton of money. So today when I felt cold, I got out a mink blanket. I told all of my family that they should use the loads of blankets that we have and use that instead of the fireplace.

The Result:
My whole family in fact saved on a whole lot of money.Using blankets are just as well as using the heater in our house.

The Reflection:
Today I realised that we don't need to use our heaters to keep warm. We can use blankets, jumpers, slippers and even closing the windows and curtains can help you keep warm.People can also be very lazy as they can't be bothered to walk up the stairs and get a blanket.

What next?:
My parents showed us the power bill and it showed that we didn't have as much money to pay than all the other weeks we have been using the heater. My parents were pleased that such a small thing could save so much. Next time I will turn off all power outlets at the will when not using them.
